A wonderful snowfall shut down our city and covered The Old Mill.

This photo, one of my first published (2000), is on the city site:
North Little Rock Old Mill

Built in 1933 by Justin Matthews as a replica of an old-water-powered grist mill, it can be seen in the opening scenes of "Gone With The Wind". Historically, the mill is nationally recognized and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The grist mill on the first floor dates back to 1828, and some mill rocks on the second floor came from the plantation of Tom Knoble, the grandfather of Tom Pugh, in whose honor the Mill is dedicated. There are also two original milestones from a road laid out more than 150 years ago by Jefferson Davis. Along this road, the Cherokee and Choctaw Indians traveled from the present town of Dardanelle, Arkansas into the Indian territory, now Oklahoma. In addition three sections of a wrought iron shaft were cut from the stern wheel of a passenger steamboat, which traveled the Arkansas River in the 1800's, are used in the mill.

It was a cold snowy day as I walked to the mill. When I removed my lens cap the lens fogged, I took the shot anyway and it turned out better that all the others. Unfortunately, I have misplaced the negative and was only able to use a scan of the photo so it's not as clear as I would like.

Beautiful! Peaceful...would make a lovely winter card :)

:thanks: Thank you so much! Funny you say that, I used it as a Christmas card one year. Sprayed just a little sparkly iridescent paint over the image for a glimmery effect and added the story of the mill inside. Actually had friends asking for extras. At that time (before CDs) I still had the negative and had 8x10s framed and matted in 11x14 frames as Christmas gifts for my family. The negative is around here somewhere ... one day I'll find it and have it put on CD.

Brianna loves the "Og Mill" as she calls it. We did not make it there while she was here this time. But she has all of Miss Lou's pictures to remind her of her visits when she is not here.

You need to take Apollo there. He does not know that he is a dog. Put his hat on him and take him on in!

I'm a :frustrated: :bookdiva: with a :camera:

Sorry to hear Brianna missed the Og Mill during her recent visit. I know how much she loves it and the swans.

You're right, Apollo, Indiana Jones, needs to visit the mill. Shuuuuush, don't say "dog" too loud ... Apollo does believe he is a human. :giggle:
